    Hi Everyone,
as mentioned above, this is my 1000th post here. So, to mark the occasion I thought I should start a new thread with my Ash bodied, Maple neck Tele Thinline.

After I completed my recent archtop build I felt the need to get back to familiar territory.

So the plan is to build one similar to Red 13 (my avatar) and this'll be Blue 15.

Recipe as follows (perhaps, depending on..........well, anything!): :D
    American Ash 2 piece body
    Single 'F' hole
    Flamed maple neck and fretboard
    Strat headstock
    Hotrod, spoke nut truss rod
    Hardtail, string though bridge
P90 pickups (cream soapbar) or maybe mini hums?
Cream, or no pick guard ( I don't usually fit PGs but Red 13 looked good)
    Cream binding
    Some kind of tuners
    Vee neck profile

I'll be taking a while to do this build but I've got the body hollowed and capped and rough cut the neck.

Love a good Thinline; interested to see how this pans out...

Liking the Strat Headstock! I spent a few months considering whether to do that or not on my built before settling on a Tele one. Not got that far yet though, so seeing your’s progress might reignite that idea for me lol.

Nice! Can't wait to see this progress. Been thinking of a thin line myself lately, with a couple of P90's. Maybe for my 1000th post. :D

How did you cut the rear control cavity plate? And what's your plan to reset it in there? Oh, and how thick is the back part of the chambered body?

I used a fret saw to cut out the cavity plate. Started it off by drilling a 1mm hole and carefully worked my way around. You can see where I started the cut on the right hand end. I sanded the plate all round to true it up then smeared some wood filler mixed with a bit of Titebond which makes it really hard when dry and then just cleaned up with sandpaper.
I glued up a few pieces of veneer to make a ledge (glued to the inside prior to gluing the top on) for the cover plate to be screwed on to.
The back of the body is 7mm but I did intend for it to be 6mm, same as the front, but no matter I'm happy so far. But a long way to go...........

Cheers for the info dude. That's a "crafty" idea using the veneer for a ledge to pop the rear cover on. Saves a bit of intricate routing.

    *thumbs up*

    A little progress:
I'm doing what I can while awaiting bits and pieces to arrive.
Thinned the headstock down to 14.5mm, as per my old 52 RI Tele. I don't really enjoy using the 'Safe T Planer' but maybe I just haven't mastered it yet. But I love carving necks which is what I'll be doing next.
Top body edge bound with cream. Looks lost at the moment but it'll be great when the top is coloured and it'll match the Gibson minis or P90s. Still not decided. I do have a new neck mini so just need the bridge, but I feel drawn to P90s for this build.
Routed neck pocket, nice fit but may give it a little relief for lacquer.

Really need to sharpen some of my router bits; the TR groove was burnt more than cut.

Just when I thought I was progressing nicely I discovered I'd cut the neck pocket 30mm longer than I should have.
OK, so I planted in another piece and re-routed to suit the correct size. It'll be fine once the top is stained and lacquered.
I was lazy in writing my notes: I'd just jotted down a list of dimensions discovered online, when it would have been better to check off my old 52 RI! The size shown was probably for a Tele bass?

Good recovery of your mistake! I did similar routing the hole for my jack cup by eye; looking at photos rather than a technical drawing. I filled it with a glue/dust mix though.

Nice use of question marks too

Good recovery on the neck pocket C.F. Nice workmanship so far! Have you done a scarfed head-stock yet? I think all guitars look sexier with a scarfed head, but that's just my opinion.

Yes, I'm double checking everything now!:p

Yep, blue. But I'll be testing on scrap first in case its more green because the ash is quite yellowish when wet.

Not yet Dave, but I'll give it a go in the near future.

Very cool build! The P90s should give it a very authoritative bluesy bark.

Finally getting some work done on this again.
    Fretboard glued to neck,

IMG_4897.jpg and body routed for P90s and sealed.
I hope to get the grain filler on today; West Systems epoxy.
